August 23rd, 2021 – Prevention On Our Plates

Making friends with vegetables, and cutting back on red meat and processed foods will shrink both our waistlines and our breast cancer risk – a double win!

One serving of green vegetables a day for postmenopausal women without a history of breast cancer gave them a 50% advantage over non-cruciferous vegetable eaters. That’s some heavy leafy armor.

August 16th, 2021 – Are You Sleep Deprived? The Struggle is Real

One of the most frustrating things we experience as we get older is the loss of good quality, consistently deep, restorative sleep.

I know I have, and still sometimes do, suffer from sleep loss. Here, I look at the science behind why we can’t get a good night’s sleep now that we are in mid-life, or beyond, and offer some concrete ways to change it.

August 9th, 2021 –  The Secret Bullet for Slowing Down Our Aging Clock?

Today, I am sharing the secret bullet for slowing down our aging clock. ⏰

Located deep inside our brain is the hippocampus. It is the part of our brains responsible for, among other things, our short-term and long-term memory storage. As I discussed last time, stress kills cells, all different kinds of cells throughout our body, and a key component of those cells is their telomeres.

The question is how do we keep those telomeres long and strong? Read this week’s article, https://www.ljrohan.com/…/the-role-of-telomeres-in…, for all the answers.

August 2nd, 2021 – How Stress Negatively Impacts Your Memory

Lowering stress levels should be our number one priority. An overabundance of stress messes with our minds, and as we enter middle age, our bodies don’t have the same reserves they once had to preserve brain function.🧠

July 26th, 2021 – Why Multi-tasking is Draining Your Brain and Memory Banks

The brain, given the chance, has the miraculous capacity to improve, no matter our age!

Our memory banks do not have to stay in drawdown mode; we have the power to make generous deposits by choosing new ways of doing things that will add to our lives at every moment.

July 19th, 2021 – I am Grateful to be My Age

Renowned psychologist, Erik Erickson, laid out eight stages we pass through as we move along the arc of life.

The stage I am closing in on (Stage 8, 65+), includes acceptance, a sense of wholeness, and a sense of peace. All elements of Vibrant Aging™.

To Erikson’s list I would add appreciation and gratitude and awe—for all I have learned and all that I know from my time here on Earth. I truly feel differently— lighter, freer, and yes, more whole. This feeling is one of the profound gifts the pandemic gave me and I am ever grateful.

For you, how has the pandemic changed your life for the better? What insights have you gained? As always, I look forward to hearing your story.
